Frequently Asked Questions

What are Math & Science Cut Ups?

Math & Science Cut Ups are card-based manipulative activities for small groups designed to help teach specific concepts and topics. Find activities that meet your curriculum needs by using the descriptions below each item in the catalog and our TEKS alignment.

How do I use Math & Science Cut Ups?

Teachers incorporate these manipulative activities as part of a lesson or use them to review information already presented. They are also used as assessments, individually or in small groups, and many teachers use them in tutoring or making "centers." Students can use their textbooks and other reference sources to find information to complete tasks successfully.

Are the activities already cut up?

Math & Science Cut Ups activity materials come printed in color on 8.5 X 11" cardstock, but they are not cut up or laminated. Teachers should laminate materials before cutting for longer durability.

How do they come to me?

Most activity  sets, based around a single topic, include 10 sets of copies, all printed using color on cardstock so that pairs or small groups of students can work on the same task at the same time. Numbers of group sets may vary and information can be found in the catalog.

Do you offer bundles?

Bundles are another way of saying you want 1 full set of everything! Bundles are available per grade level/course and prices reflect a 20% discount versus buying all the activity sets separately.

Do activities come with a KEY for the teacher?

Each set comes with suggested uses. Some sets also include helpful background information and/or a KEY for the teacher, or self-checking clues for the students. Some sets do not have keys because the variations in answers are too diverse.

Can materials be copied or scanned to store on my computer?

Math & Science Cut Ups are copyrighted materials. It is illegal to copy them, scan them, or reproduce them in any manner without explicit permission.

Do the materials come in electronic form for download?

Older versions of Math Cut Ups and Science Cut Ups activities are available for purchase in printable electronic (pdf) form through our corresponding Teachers Pay Teachers stores. Note that most activities have been updated since June 2023. Materials on TpT do NOT reflect these updates. The Science materials on TpT have NOT been updated to the newest version of the TEKS.

How should I store my materials?

Teachers usually store manipulative pieces in small plastic bags or envelopes. A complete set for a class can be stored in a larger bag or expandable file folder.

If several groups within my class are using sets of an activity how do I keep pieces from getting mixed up?

Teachers find it helpful to keep sets separated by writing the same number, letter, or symbol on the back sides of all pieces in the same set before laminating so that loose pieces can quickly be returned to their set.

Are Math & Science Cut Ups activities correlated to the TEKS or other standards?

All Math & Science Cut Ups activities are specifically designed to the TEKS.  Math Cut Ups are aligned to the 2012 adopted Mathematics TEKS for grades K-12 currently in use in Texas classrooms. Science Cut Ups are aligned to the 2020-2021 adopted Science TEKS for grades K-12 implemented in Texas classrooms in Fall 2024. There are alignment documents available on the downloads page.
